10 Things To Do in Bali with Kids

Depending on your adrenaline level, Bali has a great range of white water rafting. The Telaga Waja provides a relatively wild (class III) ride, slamming you into walls and racing below low bridges before it culminates with a 5-metre drop down a dam. The Ayung river (class II) is tame enough for even the littlest kids or nervous parents to enjoy.

Monkey Forest is is a gorgeous lush forest whose main inhabitants are monkeys!  The ticket costs 20,000 (2 USD) rupiahs and you are able to buy bananas to feed the monkeys just outside the sanctuary. As you walk thru the forest, monkeys approach you and quietly observe if you have anything that they might fancy. Cobblestone lanes lead you thru a maze-like paracours that finishes at a temple. Monkeys are able to roam around freely and so are kids.

From elephant rides to rollercoasters to rare animals including a white tiger, Bali Safari Marine Park has a host of things to do with kids — and the education shows are great. There’s a small water park on site, too, if your kids get bored of the animals. Trained zoologists accompany you on your trundle through the different habitats, and there’s an aquarium in the works as well.

Opened in 1993, Waterbom Park houses more than 17 exciting water rides making it an ideal destination for fun and entertainment for multiple age groups. The park is located on the Kuta stretch and features slides like the Smashdown, an eight storey-high slide that’s built at 60 degree incline. This means you can reach speeds of up to 70 km per hour. Then there’s the Boomerang that slides you down 20m and pulls you back up before you can even blink an eye. Parents can feel safe about the rides at the Kiddy Park, which is always supervised and is specially designed to make it child-friendly with easy slides and fun games such as water cannons and jets.

Visit Bali Bird Park! Some of Indonesia, Africa and South America’s rare tropical birds are to be found here. The park is home to almost 1,000 birds of 250 different species. It features giant walk-through aviaries that are designed to replicate actual rainforests. At this park kids can pet a number of birds and witness a show featuring eagles, owls and macaws. Visit the bird nursery to see how they are bred. You children can feed the parrots, cockatoos and hornbills and have them sit on their shoulders. Bird handlers supervise this and do their best to ensure the birds behave themselves.

Bali Treetop is a woodland adventure park set in the cool of Bedugul botanical gardens. Tarzan swings, zipwires, aerial nets and balancing challenges make up six courses through the trees — the easiest is suitable for kids as young as four. Kids will love this, and adults do too. Go in the morning to beat the rain and the crowds.

Walk through tropical gardens as beautiful butterflies flit and flap all around you. Located about an hour and 15 minutes from Kuta, Taman Kupu Kupu is a world away from the hustle and bustle of the South. Children can not only get up and close and personal with butterflies, but also caterpillars and other creepy crawlies.

The clifftop temple at Uluwatu is also worth a visit with the kids. With breathtaking ocean views, the temple is home to cheeky monkeys who aren’t afraid to come up close visitors, so keep an eye on your little ones. A traditional Kecak dance performance is held every day at sunset, and is great entertainment for the whole family.
