Tucked away in the heart of Yogyakarta, Grand Aston Yogyakarta is a modern classy and comfortable hotel located on the Yogyakarta’s main business district on Urip Sumoharjo’s street. All 141 rooms are outfitted with calming contemporary design and free in-room WiFi. (A real good WiFi, which connecting couples of devices were easy peasy.) The hotel is also located at walking distance from supermarkets, shopping malls, shopping streets and some of the city sights.

When I first entered the lobby, I could sense that this is a good business-focused hotel, and situated just off the pulsating vein (and sometimes clogged road, if it’s rush hour). And like I said, the hotel is conveniently located to allow one to explore the main streets and narrow alleys of Jalan Malioboro and Beringharjo, if you are after colorful trinkets and such.

The hotel draws a mix of foreigners and Indonesians. It projects itself as a business- and convention-friendly hotel, with a ballroom that can accommodate up to 600 guests.

At 28sqm, my superior room is clean, spacious and comes with a very inviting contemporary feel. There is a proper desk, which comes with all the requisite sockets for the many devices that travellers carry nowadays. It also has flat screen with a good selection of International TV Channels, air-conditioning, a wonderful firm king bed (gosh, between the luxury and comfort, the bed was hard to leave behind), plenty of light points, safety box, a large classy bathroom with large shower, and a good selection of good quality toiletries, robe and sleepers included!

The complimentary WiFi works seamlessly, not just in the room but the entire hotel. Only one password is needed, so you don’t have to log on every time you go online.

I also had a chance to see their suites that day. And GOSH, I love every single small details in their suites. I definitely will stay in one of these one day..

Another selfie in the room and on the swing chair won't kill me I guess.. :P

At nine storeys, it is also safe to say that they are the tallest hotel in town. The ninth floor is home to the Vanilla Sky bar, which, on a balmy night, is the place to be. Live music is available daily with different type on genre music.

Breakfast at its Saffron Restaurant, proved to be a delightful experience. And breakfast was included in the price of the room, so that was lovely. Their breakfasts cater for eastern and western palates, with so many sweet and savory options that is impossible not to overeat. They prepare your eggs the way you like it, the quantity you like it, on the spot. They have so many different things in a buffet! Quality of the food was good as well. Ahhh this is a heaven.. :)

And guess what? Where else can you drink four types of jamu (traditional herbal concoction) at one go? And while some lesser hotels may leave a bottle or two on the breakfast counter for you to help yourself, Grand Aston goes a step further by having a Mbok Jamu served you on on your table.

Rice lovers will be happy to know that all the delightful rice dishes that form a typical Javanese breakfast are served at the hotel.

I also decided to put the restaurant’s buffet dinner for breakfasting to the test one evening. It is self-service, so you eat and die happily. The buffet and the experience was really lovely and it did not disappoint me at all. For the price I paid, it was really good value for money.

The natural place to go after eating would be the hotel’s Pejamata Spa, which has a couples’ room along with individual treatment rooms. Booking a session is hassle-free, and you will be ushered in for treatment minus all the hassle of signing indemnity and health declaration forms, like some other places practice. I loved my visits to the Spa, which is small but well equipped and the staff have magic hands and do wonderful facial and body treatments. Their massage is just awesome and perfect after a long flight, and a must if you have never experienced one. I was impressed with the care and friendliness of the staff, the long opening hours, the style of the facilities, and the treatments and products used on me. I am lady spa, so I was quite “spased” and I cannot speak more highly of these magic ladies.

And for guests who like to maintain their exercise routine, the hotel has a pool and a gym. The pool is in quiet small but lovely, with a classy and elegant layout and decoration, for both sexes, and a few chairs to seat and relax.

In essence, this hotel is thoroughly modern, authentically Indonesian, user-friendly, and welcoming. With published rates starting from Rp 1,463,000 ++ including breakfast, the Grand Aston Yogyakarta is a worthy stop in this lovely city with so much potential.

In my opinion, there’s plenty of nice and affordable hotels in the city, but if you’re looking for one to treat yourself with, spend your days in Grand Aston Yogyakarta. And ohh…one of their strength is their staff. OMG, all the staff in the hotel were lovely, very helpful, smiley and willing to help: from cleaners, café attendants and waitresses, receptionists, masseuses, concierge, everybody.

Me and the Sales & Marketing Team..

They're such a lovely people..Thanks for having me there!
